EDIT: Not sure how we lost the first one we bought a year ago, but back for another. This thing is excellent!-----------------------------------------------------------------We have a 162 lb. Cane Corso who we had been struggling to find nail clippers for. Her nails were SOOOO overgrown that it was getting to where we knew we had to find something quick, or pay to have them cut, and for some reason it's almost as if vets and groomers charge by the pound ... so she would have 'broke(n) the bank.' 😅This set seemed to be one of the better ones we looked at, and at a price that was just TOO good to pass up. Don't let the low price fool you into think it's subpar! First, to get a better idea of the product, we posted in the Question Section, asking for thoughts on whether it could accommodate the nails of our biggest dog. ALL replies were positive and favorable - so we ordered it. The very day we realized they had been delivered, we began trimming! (I wish images were depicted chronologically).Since our big girl is so huge, the attached guard was a bit ineffective because it trimmed too LITTLE (the guard is pretty close to the cutting 'hole' as it should be, for smaller dogs). Had we continued to use the guard with her, we would have had to make several snips on each nail, and she was already a bit skittish to begin with. Being somewhat knowledgeable of where a dog's nail 'quick' is, and how far down it normally is within a nail, I felt comfortable cutting her nails without the guard - BUT DO NOT SUGGEST IT unless you know what a nail quick is and what you're doing as you could hurt your dog! This also does not apply to small dogs who NEED the guard to be used as, of course, they have smaller nails than a big dog does. This also worked for us ONLY because it was obvious that her nails were WAY, way overgrown, and even though we did trim more than we would have with the guard, we did NOT trim so much that we went anywhere near the quick. All in all, on the first go-around with her, we managed to trim bits of around 4-6 of her nails total, from two of her paws. This clipper worked EXCELLENTLY. It is easy to hold, easy to use, easy to like.Having clipped some of our bigger girl's nails, we moved on to our middle girl who is a princess. (Think laying out in the sun, sipping a cocktail kind of mellow). Lol. For the most part, she was extremely cooperative. We did not use the guard with her either, since she is white and has mostly clear nails and we could SEE the quick. (AGAIN, the use of the guard is highly recommended, if not necessary in most cases). We were able to trim all the nails on her front paws and most of the nails on her back paws. HINT: To avoid fraying, always cut from top to bottom or bottom to top, not across or from the side of a nail.Lastly, we ATTEMPTED to "nab a nail" on our little beast: King Edwie! For those who are familiar with Chihuahuas, you can understand when I say that it was the first and last nail we were able to get to on him. 😄Oh! Based on the reviews we had read, I thought the file would be as bad as some of the ones I have received for people-nails. The file included with this set doesn't look like much but if you run your finger over it, you definitely feel the depth, ridges and the edges of each little filing groove; and while we did not use it on any of our dogs because the clipper did its job quite well, I DID file some of my thumbnail and it filed off more than I wanted in one pass. My husband also like the file to scratch areas of his back he can't get to, or for when I'm not there. :)In all, this is definitely a very good purchase. In fact, it's one of the BETTER purchases we've made on here.
We live on a mountain with unpaved roads so wearing down the dog claws is not possible from daily hour long walks. Bought these because they looked easy to hold. Which is important as I have had 2 broken thumps from motor bike accidents and I was worried I wouldn't be able to use them. But they are easy to use and are not stiff at all. They glided right through Fang Faces nail in a whisk. My dogs don't like their nails being trimmed at all and squirm and drive me nuts. Some you struggle because they are flimsy but with but my Pitbull, my Rottweiler and my Australian Cattle Dog all sat there with some peanut butter on a spoon licking away and it was over in about 30 seconds. Cuts through them like a hot knife in butter. Strong sturdy and have a safety switch. Overall 10 out of 10 in my book.
